Dual Member Release (DMR)

What is Dual Member Release( DMR)?

SHRM is committed to improving and strengthening membership in SHRM Chapters. Dual Membership Release (DMR) provides robust support to Chapters to help them grow dual membership. Chapters have been asking for this support for years! This briefly summarizes the long list of benefits of DMR. Please contact our VP, Membership Drew Pollick to learn more!

How DMR helps your chapter operations:

• Enables Chapters to take advantage of SHRM’s PCI-Compliant(Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) webstore

• Improves member joining/renewal experience

• Increases member retention

• Provides daily roster and transaction (new and renewing member) reporting

• Eliminates annual membership audits

• Provides a robust membership renewal engine and marketing assets

 Why DMR?

• Average tenure of a dual member is more than DOUBLE!

• Certification rates among dual members are more than double

• Dual members have higher attendance and engagement at chapter events

• There’s only one expense to submit for approval

• Ease of renewal for members. One transaction to create or renew both memberships

Benefits of becoming a 100% DMR Chapter

• Chapter Financial Support Program (CFSP) increases

• Special 50% discount Transition pricing for SHRM Professional memberships for Chapter Local Members Only (LMOs) converting to Dual membership (from initial DMR launch date August 19, 2024 only) renewable annually for first two years of SHRM membership.

• Marketing to “at large” SHRM members- National SHRM Members who are not local WNCHRA Members

• Free SHRM Speaker’s Bureau speaker including travel expenses (excluding Executives, and external speakers)

Chapter’s Commitment

DMR delivers great benefits but like all things of value, it will require upfront effort and commitment on our part.

• Our Chapter will align our member’s renewal date to the SHRM membership renewal date. This is a one-time adjustment, but we will help you each step of the way.

• SHRM will “sell” Chapter membership on behalf of the Chapter. In order to do this, Chapters must sign a licensing agreement authorizing SHRM to sell Chapter membership through the DMR website and other communications.

• Chapters must convert to a 100% Chapter over the 24 months following Go Live: When Local-Member-Only (LMO) Chapter memberships are about to expire, Chapters communicate a renewal message that offers Dual Membership only.

* The DMR program does not limit who can sponsor or participate with Chapter activities, but DMR can support only one standard Membership. Student, Enterprise, and Retiree memberships would have to be managed by Chapters

SHRM’s Commitment

SHRM will provide the technology and digital marketing assets, and together we promote Dual Membership.

SHRM will leverage our strong renewal program. Renewal communications (for both the Chapter and SHRM) memberships will be provided by SHRM and begin 90 days prior to the renewal date. Chapter are still encouraged to communicate with their members regarding membership renewals through the DMR website.

• SHRM will provide a daily Membership Roster and Transaction Report with detailed information about new and renewing members.

Q: How will I pay for my membership?

As of August 19, 2024 all members will now pay for their national membership and WNCHRA in one transaction through National SHRM. In order to support the reconciliation of memberships for the Chapter's transition to DMR, all new membership applications and renewals will be paused effective July 19, 2024 until the launch date of August 19, 2024:

For brand new to SHRM, or to renew SHRM:    Join/Renew SHRM

To add WNCHRA to existing SHRM membership:  Add Chapter

Q: How much will the total membership transaction cost me?

National SHRM dues are $264, and WNCHRA dues are $0 making the total cost $264 which will be captured in one transaction.

Q: What if I am not a SHRM National Member?

· Beginning August 19, 2024, it will be required for new members to also be SHRM National members. For current members who are not SHRM National members, there will be a transition time until August 19, 2025 for you to convert to a SHRM National member.

Q: Do I have to be certified to be a SHRM National Member?

· No- certification is not required to be a SHRM National Member. However we do encourage certification for your professional development! Our programs provide recertification credits to support your professional development.

Q: Why should I join National SHRM when WNCHRA gives me all I need?

National SHRM membership offers many resources to save time and money as they strive to stay compliant and create a great workplace for their organizations. SHRM has an Ask an Advisor service, that gives personalized advice on your specific HR questions or challenges. SHRM provides how-to guides, sample policies, job descriptions and interview questions, and more. SHRM members also get discounts on many professional, personal and travel services plus HR labor law posters, employee handbook builders, and much more.

Q: What if my National SHRM and WNCHRA membership expire at different times?

If your WNCHRA membership expires after your SHRM membership:  When you go to renew your SHRM membership, you will need to pay the full amount for both memberships, and then you may be offered a pro-rata credit for the Chapter membership you already paid for by WNCHRA.

If your WNCHRA membership expires before your SHRM membership:  You may receive an additional invoice from WNCHRA to cover the gap or WNCHRA may just absorb the loss. Your following membership renewals will then be at the regular price and your expiration date will be the same for both organizations.

Q: I am already a member of National SHRM. What can WNCHRA offer me in addition to my National SHRM membership?

Being a local chapter member provides you with an amazing local network and community of HR Professionals. You will meet other local professionals who are facing the same challenges that you are and can assist you with answers to your questions. You will receive invitations to WNCHRA’s Annual Legal Conference, monthly meetings, networking events, and professional development opportunities. The majority of our programs have been approved for HRCI and SHRM certification credits. Additionally, there are leadership and volunteer opportunities to assist in your professional development and to give back to the HR community. We encourage current SHRM National members to designate us as your Primary Chapter!

Q: Can I belong to more than one local chapter at a time?

Yes, you can belong to more than one local chapter. However, only your Primary receives financial support from SHRM National. Please consider designating WNCHRA as your primary chapter when joining or adding Chapter membership to your existing SHRM membership using the SHRM Dual Membership (SHRM Store) portal.
